We live in zone 6a and I have been gardening and cooking for years. This blog is an opportunity for me to share with you my success and those failures that come about on occasion. Plus, I want to hear from all the gardeners and bakers and cooks out there and learn from you. Feel free to share your ideas.

TWD: Baking With Julia-Chiffon Roll

This chiffon roll is delicious, but it required a lot of kitchen equipment and pots and pans. I pulled out my hand mixer, food processor and kitchen aid mixer, plus multiple bowls and pots. This is a dessert
that one would make for a special event. The filling has a walnut chocolate paste added to whip cream. The walnut chocolate paste was made by adding walnuts to the food processor, along with a little oil, and melted bittersweet chocolate. Whip cream was then folded into it. The recipe stated that it served six, but those servings were way too large. I cut the roll into twelve servings.

The finished product.

  1. Your roll looks great!!
I enjoyed the recipe too, and indeed, this is a perfect dessert for special occasions!!
To make a faster lovely dessert I made it with ice-cream instead the chocolate mousse, it was delicious and a big hit!!!

  2. My kitchen was definitely a mess after making this! But it was DELISH!

  3. I felt the same way about the kitchen mess…but the cake was delicious! A winner in my house! Yours looks lovely!

  4. It is indeed a dessert that can work as a show stopper. Great looking cake.

  5. I hear ya - I tried to clean as I went but I constantly needed another piece of equipment or a spatula or a bowl...The roll looks great!

  6. Beautiful slice of cake! This recipe really did dirty a lot of dishes...but I think it was worth it! :)

    1. Yes I just finished washing all the pots and pans.- just kidding.

  7. Yes, soooo many pans and utensils, but so worth it. I cut mine in 1/2 and got 8 pieces from 1/2. The other one is in the freezer. Joy for later.

  8. It was an amazing amount of cookware that was used. Serves six? Who are they kidding?!! Easily serves double that.

  9. It looks like it worked out wonderfully for you. This one was an exercise in dishwashing, but it seems to have been well-enjoyed!
