We live in zone 6a and I have been gardening and cooking for years. This blog is an opportunity for me to share with you my success and those failures that come about on occasion. Plus, I want to hear from all the gardeners and bakers and cooks out there and learn from you. Feel free to share your ideas.

Fig Tree

Just came in from planting the Chicago Hardy Fig and I noticed that it has 2 figs on the tree.  I am hoping that the deer stay away from it. However, I still enstalled fencing around it until it is much larger. We are keeping our fingers crossed that we get figs and if anyone has tips for growing figs, I would love to hear from you.

  1. Do deer bother figs? I have not had problem with any wildlife except birds...we don't have deer...but I've been thinking of planting several up at the cabin.

  2. Fig trees are beautiful canopy fruit trees as they mature. I have a brown turkey fig in my backyard-Every year I have to share my fruit with the birds. The deer eat low hanging fruit.

    1. Do you live in an area where you have winter with snows? I am wondering if they need to be protected from the winter environment . We live in zone 6.
